Basic Life Support.
1. D: Assess danger around the unconscious person.
2. R: Look for response - Try waking the patient/asking.
3. A: Airway - Lift up the chin, open the mouth, try looking for any obstruction.
4. B: Breathing - Check whether there’s breathing or not. Observe whether there’s any chest movement. If there’s presence of breathing, position the person to recovery position. No breathing, ask for help. Proceed to giving the person 2 mouth-to-mouth breaths.
5. C: Circulation - Check the pulse (carotid/brachial). If no pulse call the ambulance, then proceed with compression of the chest (place your non-dominant palm on the sternum, which is in the middle of the chest and your dominant palm on top of the hand). Make 30 compressions while saying the number out loud (1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 -> 10. After 11, just say the number, twelve, thirteen-> thirty).
6. Repeat for 5 cycles. Check the pulse/breathing. Continue till help arrives.
CPR can help saving a life. It helps to maintain oxygen perfusion to vital organs when the heart cannot do the job itself.
Break a rib if you have to just to save a person.
